PROMOTING COMMUNITY ORGANISATION AND DEVELOPMENT

The prime focus of Apnalaya's work is community development, the ultimate aim - to empower the communities to take up and resolve issues which impact on their quality of life. REACHING OUT TO CHILDREN

One of Apnalaya's prime objectives is to work for children, to help them grow up to a better life; the key to achieving this is education. ADDRESSING HEALTH NEEDS

The health of people in the communities where Apnalaya works is very poor, due to extreme poverty, lack of water, sanitation and awareness. Malnutrition and anaemia are major problems. The most vulnerable in this situation are women and children. Our approach is both direct and indirect, moving between service delivery and a rights-based approach to health, since we cannot hope to provide all the services needed.

EMPOWERING WOMEN

Starting with promoting education for the girl child, Apnalaya strives to improve the condition of women in our communities. Living often in appalling conditions, most women have to struggle to keep a roof over their head and their families fed. Apnalaya helps them with vocational training and to form savings groups, to sort out family problems, and to know how to protect themselves from HIV. And most importantly, to come together as women to tackle common problems.
