A special programme for children, ‘Bal Melava’ was held on November 16th to celebrate not only Children’s Day, but 35 years of Apnalaya! Nearly 550 children from various Apnalaya centres and project groups – sponsorship, child labour, sports and Challenger - attended the fun filled day, held in the grounds of Geeta Vikas School, Shivaji Nagar. In the morning over 20 stalls devised and run by the staff, tested the skills and provided the fun. A juggler entertained the children before lunch; after lunch they enjoyed a magic show, and an educational show on superstition. The arrival of Anjali Tendulkar along with her children Sara and Arjun after lunch added to the excitement for the children. Director, Leena Joshi and Programme Coordinator, Vinod Hiwale ensured that the children had a wonderful time and went home with fond memories. |

Preparations have already started for the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon which is scheduled for Jan 19, 2009. A Apnalaya team of 125 children, staff and volunteers will take part to raise funds for our work. Last year the funds raised during the Marathon accounted for 23% of our total income. Please support us again. |

Our need for funds is urgent. The first six months balance sheet shows income of Rs.30 lakhs and expenditure of over Rs.40 lakhs. Balance funds from last year’s Marathon made up the difference. We have no further reserves for this year, and with the slow down in the economy, fund raising is not going to be easy.To help you, donating to Apnalaya has become easier – just a click away, as they say! You can now donate through the secure Online donation option on our website. Please tell your friends too. |

The latest Annual Report for 2007-8 will be uploaded on our website shortly. Compiling it took a lot of effort, as there is so much on which to report. Please read it, and send your feedback to director@apnalaya.org or admin@apnalaya.org. |
